story part 2

Okay, this is the second part of my story, if you have not yet read part one, click on "older entries" and read "story part 1." Again, this is not meant to be a finished product, and I don't claim to be the best writer. I just have this story I have to write down. So here goes...

On the morning of Saturday, April 7, 2001, Janet and Sam once again awoke to the sound of the bird hitting it's head into the window. They got up and Sam went out to mow the lawn. Janet was doing laundry and ready to enjoy the next week. Being a teacher, she got a week off for Spring Break. They were both looking forward to Easter, which was a week away.

Sam only ate a bite of the bagel he made for breakfast, which was odd, because he always ate when he got up. Janet noticed he seemed to be having a hard time with the lawn mower, because it kept going off. She found him sitting down in the backyard a couple of times. She figured he must not feel well; the only time he ever wanted to be left alone was when he was sick.

Janet sat in the kitchen, catching up with some lesson plans. She wanted to get her work done early, so she could enjoy the rest of the week with Sam. Suddenly, a boy came to the door. "Your husband passed out," he said. She ran out with him to the front yard. There she saw Sam, lying on the ground under a tree, and the neighbor from across the street was doing CPR on him. He'd had a heart attack. She didn't know what to do. The neighbor's wife told her to go inside and get whatever she needed to take to the hospital. They had already called an ambulance. On the way to the hospital, Janet kept thinking how as bad as it was, it was good this happened now, while she was off work. She had a whole week to stay with him and take care of him and nurse him back to health.

In the waiting room, Janet called her son and asked if he could come up to the hospital. A few mintues later, a doctor came in and told her that Sam was dead. Janet was in shock. People don't die after their first heart attack. He was supposed to get better. Sam couldn't die. Not Sam! Sam, who gave her back her happiness. Sam, who came back into her life after thirty years. This couldn't be the way it ended! This was her fairy tale!

But it was over. Sam left Janet's life as quickly as he had come into it. What was she going to do now? All of her dreams, all of their plans... It was over. After spending all of her life taking care of other people, she had finally found someone to take care of her. And now he was gone. She was ready to just give up and go with him.

To be continued... (again, I know, but not only does this take a long time to write, it is also very difficult for me to write. It's a sad story, and it takes a lot out of me.)
