story part 1

Okay, this is the first part of my story. Well, it's more than half of it. It's not exactly as detailed as I would like it to be, and it's not edited in any way. I just sat down and wrote what came into my head. I'll finish it soon, and fix it up some other time (probably not soon), but this is the basic storyline.

Janet never believed in fairy tales. She married young, to a man she thought she knew and after 27 years of marriage, she realized she didn't know at all. She didn't regret anything, she had two children she was very close to and she enjoyed her life... just not her marriage. She began to hate watching movies with so called "fairy tale endings." First of all, fairy tales don't always have happy endings, and second, she simply didn't believe that anything in real life had a happy ending, especially marriages. She divorced in March, 2000. She was glad to have the chance to start over, but she really wasn't happy. She was going through the typical emotional stages one goes through after a divorce.

One day in October of the same year, an old friend called Janet. She said she would be in town and a bunch of old friends from high school were getting together for dinner. Sam was going to be there. Janet knew Sam since they were kids. They lived around the corner from each other when they were growing up. They dated in junior high, and because they had mutual friends, they spent a lot of time hanging out together throughout high school. He was even at her wedding. They lost touch when Sam moved to New York, but she always wondered how he was. Now, it had been almost thirty years since she had seen him.

At dinner, they seemed to get along pretty well, but afterward Janet didn't expect to ever hear from him. One night, while on the internet, Sam sent her an 'instant message,' or IM. They wrote back and forth for a long time, and it became a daily thing. They would occasionally go out for dinner or drinks, and it eventually became a relationship. Sam lived about an hour away, so Janet would drive up and stay at his house on the weekends. During the week, they talked every night on IM. She had never been happier in her life. She was a different person. She even began to change her thinking, started believing that fairy tales really can come true, maybe they do have happy endings. Her life had become a fairy tale.

Sam always talked about their future together. How they would go on all these trips and cruises and Janet would never have to worry about money again, because he would take care of her. He was going to buy her a new car and a new house for them to live in. He told her she could quit her job and they could live off the money he made from his. Everything was perfect. Except Sam wouldn't go to the doctor. He was like so many other men, who think they're okay enough that they don't need someone to tell them what's wrong. He had terrible heartburn all the time. Janet worried about it, but he would just take some Alka Seltzer and later he would be okay.

At Sam's house, a bird lived right outside the bedroom window. Every morning, it flew from a tree branch to the fence, then INTO the window (head first) and then back to the tree branch. It did this over and over and over again. Every morning. Sam said it was an omen. He believed in those kinds of things, horoscopes and astrology. Janet just thought it was weird. In March, 2001, Sam's father died. He really wasn't that close to his father, but it was difficult for him. His mother was alone now, so he went to visit her often.

To be continued... (this is not supposed to be like movies or TV where they leave you hanging, I just can't finish it right now).
